Bapsi Sidwa is a writer of the novel “Crow Eaters”. She belongs to the Parsi (Zoroastrian) religion and born in Pakistan. She has written this novel “Crow Eaters” on Parsi religion and culture.
Faredoon is the main character and protagonist of the novel “Crow Eaters”, his complete name is Faredoon Junglewala. He was called Junglewala due to his previous village from where he came. He was migerated from anonymous jungle of India to Lahore. His nick name is Freddy; it is from the name Faredoon.
He is a hard worker and clever man. When he came from anonymous jungle of India to Lahore, he was penny less and he started his business in Lahore, due to his hard work, polite language and cleverness. He got money from insurance company by deceiving them and after getting money he never looked back, at the end of the novel he was a very prosperous man in Parsi community.
Jerbano is the major problem in his life. Jerbano who is his mother-in-law is disturbing him in each and every matter. Her disturbance become low only when when she was afraid on the event in which Faredoon want to get the lock of her hairs but she wake up and give splash on the Faredoon’s face. She also disturbed the Tanya and the wife of Poe Allen which is also problem for Faredoon.
Faredoon is a strict religious person. When his son Yazdi wants to marry with an Anglo-Indian girl ‘Rose Watson’, he reacts with anger and gives splash on the face of Yazdi. He said to Yazdi that in Parsi religion they were not married to other religion’s peoples.
Soli’s death affects him spiritually. Faredoon comes to know from a fortune teller Gopal Krishan that his son Soli will die after three months and he died on the told date. Soli’s death affects him so much that he gave up his business in the Behram Junglewala’s hands (Younger son nick name Billy). He gave money in charity and takes more interest in religion. Soli’s death heightens him spiritually.
Behram’s marriage is an important event in his life. He advertised in newspaper for the Billy’s suitor. On the advertisement in response the hundreds of letters received but chose the Roshan the daughter of Nosherwan Easy Money. They went to India for the Roshan’s hand but Billy there interested in Tanya the younger sister of Roshan so, the proposal of marriage to Tanya is succeeded and with luxurious manner the marriage is conducted. Faredoon gifted Billy a luxurious house also.
When Tanya gives birth to her second child who resembled Soli, Faredoon,s life completely changed and he got ill. He advised his family that they follow the orders of rulers and their elders at the time of partition to save the family members’ lives.
Faredoon Junglewala is a hard worker, clever, religious and caring person. He follows his religion and culture in foreign countries also. He is a generous and successful person.
