Exposition of the Character
Fredoon is the main character and protagonist of the novel “Crow Eaters”. His complete name is Fredoon Junglewala. He was called Junglewala due to his previous village, from which he came. He was migrated from the anonymous jungle of India to Lahore. His nickname is Freddy; it is from the name Fredoon.
Financial condition of Faredoon
He is a hard worker and a clever man. When he came from the anonymous jungle of India to Lahore, he was a penny less. And he started his business in Lahore. Due to his hard work, polite language, and cleverness, he got money from the insurance company by deceiving them. And after getting the money, he never looked back. At the end of the novel, he was a very prosperous man in the Parsi community.
Major problems in the life of Faredoon
Jerbano is the major problem in his life. Jerbano, who is his mother-in-law, is disturbing him in each and every matter. Her disturbance becomes low only when she is afraid of the event. In which Fredoon wants to get the lock of her hair, but she wakes up and gives a splash on Fredoon’s face. She also disturbed Tanya and the wife of Poe Allen, which is also a problem for Fredoon.
Belief in Religion
Faredoon is a strict religious person. When his son Yazdi wants to marry an Anglo-Indian girl, Rose Watson. He reacts with anger and splashes on the face of Yazdi. He said to Yazdi that in the Parsi religion, they were not married to other religions.
Faredoon’s Son Soli’s Death
Soli’s death affects him spiritually. Faredoon comes to know from a fortune teller, Gopal Krishan, that his son Soli will die after three months, and he died on the predicted date. Soli’s death affects him so much that he gives up his business in the Behram Junglewala’s hands (Younger son’s nickname name Billy). He gave money in charity and took more interest in religion. Soli’s death heightens him spiritually.
Marriage of Behram (Billy)
Behram’s marriage is an important event in his life. He advertised in the newspaper for Billy’s suitor. On the advertisement in response to the hundreds of letters received, but chose Roshan, the daughter of Nosherwan Easy Money. They went to India for Roshan’s hand, but Billy there interested in Tanya, the younger sister of Roshan. So, the proposal of marriage to Tanya is successful, and with a luxurious manner, the marriage is conducted. Faredoon gifted Billy a luxurious house, also.
Before Death
When Tanya gives birth to her second child, who resembles Soli. Faredoon’s life completely changed, and he got ill. He advised his family they follow the orders of rulers and their elders. At the time of partition, to save the family members’ lives.
